The Meaning of the Yellow Dot

This term was inspired by the mention of Singapore as a red dot by the third President of the Republic of Indonesia, BJ Habibie, by reason of this area of ​​​​the country which is only visible as a small dot on the map. Singapore embraces this mention and sees this as their strength, although small, but with resilience and struggle they can emerge as a global power. The term Red Dot Diplomacy was then introduced by Singapore, where in establishing international relations, the policy orientation is to focus on rational considerations of national interests and emphasize the importance of continuity of global cooperation.

This inspiration then we made the term the Yellow Dot to symbolize Padang City. The yellow color symbolizes prosperity/glory on Padang City’s emblem, this color also has the same meaning to Malay ethnic group in general. Padang City is also a small area if seen from the map, but can grow if the city is able to rationalize what their interests and advantages are. As a port city that is in a strategic position on Sumatra, the continuity of cooperation is also of interest to the city. Obviously Padang is the same as Singapore.

We hope that Padang can emulate Singapore's successful example in developing their country. In less than fifty years they managed to become a developed country because of their persistent efforts and emphasis on meritocracy. One important thing that can be learned is that emphasizing the orientation of fulfilling self-interest does not mean that it will result in a protective policy and close itself to cooperation. Instead by precisely rationalizing what needs or interests are, it will proactively open the door for cooperation. This comes from the basic human law that we cannot meet all our own needs, there needs to be a process of exchanging goods or services.
